flag football week
This week is all about football. We started our football unit last week and are continuing to build on skills necessary for the game. We will be using flags this week to work on running and avoiding defender while moving in space. Kindergarten and first grade will also be working on running holding the football with the correct form and teamwork as always. The second and third graders are focusing on throwing and catching the ball correctly along with running and handing the ball to teammates. Another area of focus for third will be throwing at set targets for accuracy. The fourth grade girls are practicing throwing at moving targets and catching while moving in a set direction. They will also work on running in a set direction while avoiding defenders.

The Switch
We are officially switching coaches and kids this week. Coach Every will welcome the group that was with Coach Cameron for the first trimester. Coach Pope will welcome the group coming from Coach Every. I would like to welcome all of the students who had Coach Pope for the first trimester.
The first unit for this trimester will be basketball. All of my classes will go to the recreational gym to start their basketball unit. Kindergarten will focus on learning how to bounce, catch, and dribble the basketball on lines of the court. They will also have a chance to practice shooting and passing the basketball around the court. Some of the things first and second grade will focus on this week are dribbling the basketball on lines around the court with correct form, passing the basketball (chest and bounce passes) with partners, and laying up the basketball. Third and Fourth grade will focus on utilizing both hands while dribbling the basketball around set cones, shooting and laying up the basketball with the correct form, and teamwork games/activities.
Its going to be great!!
Note: Please have your child wear sneakers/running shoes to accommodate the gym floor.

In The New Gym Now
We are so very excited to have our new athletic center use this week. All of the classes will be going up to the new gym for some fun games and activities. These games are designed to promote hand, eye, and foot coordination. Another reason for us all going to the new gym this week is to go over all the rules with the students for using the facilities of the athletic center. We will also work on forming good routines with the students for moving to and from athletic center. All of the students are very excited to have this new facility. Its going to be great!!!
Note: Only running/tennis shoes are to be used on the courts in the athletic center. Please make sure your child has these type of shoes on P.E. days.
