After Some Good Food

I hope that everyone had a great thanksgiving break.  Now it time to work off some of those extra pounds by play some fun games.  We are continuing with our basketball unit this week.  Kindergarten and first grade will be playing some fun cooperative games with an emphasis team work.  Second grade will work on their ability to shoot and pass the ball properly in small groups.  Third and fourth grade are playing basketball games this week that also stress teamwork.

On Thursday of this week we will start our flag football unit.  The younger grades will work on moving and grabbing flags appropriately in set boundaries.  Second through fourth grade are going to be taking part in specific drills for passing, catching, and running with the football.

The Switch

We are officially switching coaches and kids this week.  Coach Every will welcome the group that was with Coach Cameron for the first trimester.  Coach Pope will welcome the group coming from Coach Every.  I would like to welcome all of the students who had Coach Pope for the first trimester.

The first unit for this trimester will be basketball.  All of my classes will go to the recreational gym to start their basketball unit.  Kindergarten will focus on learning how to bounce, catch, and dribble the basketball on lines of the court.  They will also have a chance to practice shooting and passing the basketball around the court.  Some of the things first and second grade will focus on this week are dribbling the basketball on lines around the court with correct form, passing the basketball (chest and bounce passes) with partners, and laying up the basketball. Third and Fourth grade will focus on utilizing both hands while dribbling the basketball around set cones, shooting and laying up the basketball with the correct form, and teamwork games/activities.

Its going to be great!!

Note: Please have your child wear sneakers/running shoes to accommodate the gym floor.

Group Games

The students will primarily be participating group games during this week.  We have completed our units and will be switching coaches starting next week.  For the group games this week, we will be focusing on teamwork, how to show good sportsmanship, and having full effort and participation from all of the students. These are important goals that we continue to stress through out the school year in P.E. class.  Let's have some fun!
